Most songs begin quietly. A few words written down before they disappear. A melody played once, then again. Sometimes I know exactly where a song is going.

Most of the time, I don't.

I like that part — before there are arrangements, recordings or decisions to make. It's just me, a guitar and an idea that might become something.

Some ideas disappear by the next morning.

Others refuse to leave.

Those are usually the ones worth following.
